Parksville Beach Public Washroom

Solis Architecture was engaged by Tula Landscape Architects and the City of Parksville to complete conceptual/schematic design of a public washroom as part of the overall redesign of their prominent public city park.

The client needed a high vandal-resistant building due to the extreme levels of vandalism found on public infrastructure on the island.  Solis Architecture envisioned a unique design featuring fabric-formed concrete.  A durable and functional material that provides a beautiful form and textural piece of art and architecture.

Solis Architecture worked closely with Earth House Holdings, a general contractor specializing in unique construction projects and rammed earth. A test wall was created to show The City of Parksville that it was feasible to construct with local trades.

The final design has fabric-formed concrete on the front entry, offering an impressive design element that improves the quality of public architecture on the island, and is reminiscent of the bubbles and foam typical in an ocean beach landscape.
