Solis Architecture was engaged by GCCI construction for the rebuild of 604 Patricia Street in Jasper due to it being pulled down to provide a natural fire break to prevent the wildfire from spreading throughout the downtown.

The owner requested some revisions to the design because the original layout had several renovations and modifications over the years and the existing layout needed to be simplified to provide a more efficient and better layout.

Solis produced a conceptual design that created a main floor commercial building that was modern and pushed the boundaries of the design guidelines by using wood grain metal cladding, sloped canopy and large windows. The floor plans were adjusted and optimized for better layout and the structure was revised to a steel post and beam system.

We feel that this design fits within a modern mountain context.

2 Storey Option

The owner requested an exploration of adding a 2nd floor to the building to create residential suites above the main floor. Solis worked with the owner, contractor, and structural engineer to develop an option that could be priced and determine if it could be done as part of a phased construction.

The addition of the 2nd floor elaborates on the main floor option with recessed balconies that is tied into the parapet of the main floor creating a seamless design. Using wood cladding adds a sense of warmth and the extension of the canopy provides natural protection from the elements.

This project is currently waiting on funding to proceed.
